Indian steel giant Tata Steel has developed E350 hot-rolled fire-resistant structural steel, designed to maintain the structural integrity of buildings and engineering structures in the event of a fire. This was reported by MySteel.
The new product has successfully passed certification by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in accordance with the requirements of IS 15103 — the national standard for fire-resistant structural steel.
The main technological advantage of the new steel is its ability to retain up to two-thirds of its yield strength at a temperature of 600 °C for three hours. These properties have been achieved through an optimised combination of micro-alloying elements and microstructure engineering, which ensures the material’s high strength under conditions of extreme heat.
The company states that the new development is intended for use in the manufacture of fire-resistant structural components, in particular hollow tubes and sections for prefabricated buildings.
Tata Steel, part of the Tata Group conglomerate, is one of the world’s largest steel producers, with facilities in India, the Netherlands, the UK and Thailand. The company’s current consolidated annual steelmaking capacity stands at 35.9 million tonnes, and by the 2030–2031 financial year, the manufacturer plans to increase this figure to 51.5 million tonnes per year.
As reported by GMK Center, Tata Steel increased its net revenue by 14.3% year-on-year to $6.35 billion in the first quarter of the 2026/2027 financial year (ending 30 June). The company’s net profit rose by 11.6% – to $242.3 million.
