The difference between hot rolling and cold rolling
Many people are not very clear about the concepts of hot rolling and cold rolling. Today, I will explain these two processing technologies in detail.
Hot rolling and cold rolling are two different metal processing technologies. Generally speaking, hot rolling is the main method for rolling steel, and cold rolling is usually only used to produce small-sized steel and thin plates with precise dimensions. Hot rolling is a rolling process carried out at high temperatures, which is usually used to produce thicker plates and profiles. Cold rolling is a rolling process carried out at room temperature, which is mainly used to produce thin plates and strips. The cold rolling process can make the metal surface smoother and more accurate in size, and it can also improve the strength and hardness of the material.
Application of hot and cold rolling of steel
Wire rod: The diameter ranges from 5.5 to 40 mm, usually in coil form, and are all hot-rolled products. After cold drawing, the wire is transformed into cold drawn material;
Round steel: In addition to bright steel with precise dimensions, most of them are hot rolled products, and there are also forged materials with forging marks on the surface;
Strip steel: Strip products are both hot rolled and cold rolled, but cold rolled strip steel is usually thinner;
Steel plates: Cold rolled steel plates are generally thinner, such as those used in automobile manufacturing. Hot rolled steel plates are mostly medium and thick plates, and the appearance of the two is significantly different;
Angle steel: All are hot rolled products;
Steel pipes: Steel pipes are both welded hot rolled and cold drawn;
Channel steel and H-beam: All are hot rolled products;
Rebar: They belong to hot rolled steel.
Performance of cold rolled stainless steel strip coils
1. Smooth surface and precise size control
The stainless steel strip coils formed during the cold rolling process have extraordinary smooth surfaces and high precision dimensions, all of which are due to fine processing at low temperatures.
2. Strong tensile strength and hardness
Cold rolling gives stainless steel strip coils stronger tensile strength and hardness without sacrificing their excellent ductility and toughness. This combination of properties excels in environments that require high cleanliness and precision, such as aerospace, medical equipment, and food production.
3. Good corrosion and oxidation resistance
Cold rolled stainless steel strips also have good corrosion and oxidation resistance, which allows them to maintain stable performance even in harsh environments. Its surface smoothness not only improves aesthetics, but also reduces the accumulation of dirt and bacteria, making it very suitable for medical devices and food processing equipment. The cold rolling process also gives stainless steel strips a higher strength-to-weight ratio, giving it a significant advantage in applications that require lightweight design.
